Keeper Grunts

4th report from a member of the Guy Harvey Saltwater Fishing Camp

Keeper Grunts by: Ryan Katz

Today was a great day fishing for Key West Grunt (Gray Snapper). We went about 9-12 miles out of Johns pass. There was a very light chop with light winds out of the south. We drift fished in about 40-60 feet of water. We used little chunks of squid on a circle hook with 40 pokeeper gruntund braid. We also caught little sea bass, red grouper and squirrel fish. None were keepers! The Grunts were averaging at about 10″ with a few bigger ones. The sea bass were about 6″ but the limit is 10″ so we could not keep any. All the red groupers were about 12″ with one keeper that was 30″. The minimum length is 20″.
