Spring is Here
Spring is here and fish are showing in big numbers. As the water temperature continues to warm up the fish become more active and migratory specie s are beginning to show along the Gulf Coast. Spanish mackerel are being caught on the beaches and are making their way into the bay. King mackerel are being caught offshore as well as a few along the beach. Tuna have also been caught offshore.
Everyone has been reporting large Snapper offshore. We have seen some monsters on the filet table at the marina. Capt. Billy Nobles and Capt. John Gunter have caught some pretty impressive fish offshore in the past 2 weeks.
Inshore fishing is also heating up. This winter has produced an unbelievable amount of large Sheephead in the bay and they are still going strong. The snapper bite by the Skyway is also on fire. Fishing with live shrimp and a small hook is definitely the way to go. Bait was hard to come by but recently started showing on the flats, Fort Desoto Fishing Pier, and Skyway fishing Pier. Trout are being caught just off of the channel by pinellas point using live shrimp, D.O.A. shad, and top water lures (they aren’t very picky).
